The United Kingdom will start the process of leaving the European Union at 11pm on 31 January. This will impact all areas of life for people in the UK and beyond but not immediately!

Women’s Rights: The Future is Uncertain.

Human Rights frameworks will become more important for campaigners, practitioners, lawyers and for funding applications. The UK will remain a member of the European Convention of Human Rights and keep its Human Rights Act. Please see www.r4womeninprison.net for more details.

It is expected that funding in the UK for specialist services relating to women and children will suffer. The task for many will be to find alternative resources and most importantly ‘work together’.

International Collaboration:

Co-operation and contact between researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders is vital for the transformation of conditions, prisoner rights and developing alternatives. In 2019, Research for Women in Prison had impact in 36 countries:

The top five countries for readership are: US, UK, France, Austria and Finland

During 2019, Research for Women in Prison has been read in 102 cities and 67 universities worldwide. To keep the momentum going please contact me with your research, ideas for collaboration or other ways to sustain these efforts. So far, this has only been possible through my dedication and passion.
